Reconnect with Nature Through Movement!

Updated: Apr 3

Hello! Welcome to April! The first month of the 2nd quarter. It brings with a fresh renewal from the planet.

In a world where sedentary lifestyles have become the norm, National Move More Month is here to bring a breath of fresh air, inviting us all to rediscover the joy and vitality of movement. This initiative, spearheaded by the American Heart Association, isn't just about exercise, no it's a call to action, a reminder that our bodies are designed to move at every stage of life. Earth Month is a perfect time to share this reminder which we hope will provide you with the nudge to take action for your own personal health renewal.

The Simple Joy of Movement

The American Heart Association created this month with one beautiful vision: get moving. No complicated workout plans. No expensive equipment. Just you and your body, working together as nature intended.

What can "moving more" look like? It could be:

  • A peaceful walk through your neighborhood or nearby park.

  • Dancing to your favorite song throughout the house while you clean or jumping on a trampoline for 20 minutes or so.

  • Taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

  • Parking the car further away from your destination. For those that don’t drive, spare the excuse. Get off the bus or train if safe to do a stop or two before you are due to reach your destinations.

  • Hike through nature.

  • Ride a bike to the store. Don’t have a bike. Rent, borrow, or save up to purchase one.

Every movement honors the body you've been given. Every step celebrates the earth that supports you. The ability to move your body is a gift that can make living on earth much more joyous.

Earth and Body: Perfect Partners

As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, the connection becomes even clearer. Our bodies and our planet share the same needs. They must be cared for in order to flourish. When you move outdoors, something magical happens. Your lungs fill with fresh air. Your skin soaks in natural light. Your eyes witness the unfolding beauty of spring. This isn't just exercise that is occurring it's communion with the natural world.

More Than Physical Benefits

Movement changes us from the inside out:

  • Your heart grows stronger with every beat.

  • Your mind becomes clearer as stress dissipates.

  • Your mood and energy brightens like the beautiful Sprint blue Sky.

  • Your sleep deepens like roots in rich soil.

Start Your Journey This Month

This April, make a promise to yourself and to Mother Earth that you will be and do better when it comes to your health, but particularly moving more. Consider making this promise to yourself official. Get a notebook to write down your personal movement pledge to yourself on paper. Date it, sign it, and place it somewhere visible so that you can check in with it often. Use this paper not as a source of guilt, but as a reminder of possibility. This isn't about perfect performance it's about showing up for yourself. Afterwards, take the experience deeper. Step outside, remove your shoes if the weather permits. Feel the earth supporting you. This simple act of connection grounds you literally and figuratively, reminding you that your actions matter to not only yourself but to the world you live in to. You see by you being able to move more freely, you are capable of reaching so many more people with your gifts and talents. You can use your physical body to meet up with people to run or walk. This could be the start of your body being a vessel to bring a new group of people together to gather and enjoy life who may be lonely.

Natural Renewal

In summation, as the flowers push through soil and trees unfurl new leaves, let your body experience renewal. Each movement is a celebration of the season of spring, of life, and of the incredible gift of being alive on this beautiful planet. Your journey begins with a single step. Today or sometime within the next few days consider taking some steps to add more movement into your life no matter what age you are. 20 minutes a day or every other day can make a world of a difference in your life regarding the betterment of your health and well-being.

Pondering Question:
